Volunteers for Helping Hands Again Hunger in Washington DC

Nourishing the Community

Helping Hands Against Hunger (HHAH) is on a mission to provide good food and supportive resources to community members when they need it most.

What We Do

Helping Hands Against Hunger travels throughout the greater Washington, D.C. region to serve meals to community members, especially individuals and families experiencing food and housing instability.

We partner with soup kitchens, shelters, and set up tables in local parks to provide hot, delicious, homemade meals to anyone in need. In addition, we provide patrons with information to support their access to community-based resources.

There are many organizations providing important services throughout the region and Helping Hands Against Hunger is committed to helping connect our patrons with additional ways to have their needs met.

About Our Executive Director

Demetris L. Moore is passionate about connecting people to one of life’s most essential ingredients – food. After nearly a decade of volunteering to feed families in need, she decided to start Helping Hands Against Hunger.

“I have always wanted to make time to provide the essentials to people in need. Food insecurity was already a huge problem, and I realized that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the problem was growing as people were losing their jobs and the ability to provide for their families. Food should be a given, and I’m thankful that I can provide it for community members who may be struggling.”

Demetris recently graduated from the University of Maryland Global Campus with a BA in Business Administration. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree. She is excited to use her business knowledge to help change the world – starting closer to home with a delicious meal!
